An important Dresden square cased horizontal table clock with quarter/hour strike and alarm Dimensions 130 x 90 mm, circa 1608, Origin Deutschland Case: Brass, applied silvered strapwork, the four corners decorated with caryatids, four pomegranate feet, monogram "T:R:D" and date 1608 engraved in the base plate. Dial: Copper, brass surrounding with engraved quarter hour division, spandrels with riveted, winged cherub heads, engraved hour chapter ring with radial Roman hours I-XII and inner chapter ring with Arabic numerals 13-24, central alarm disc, iron hands. Movm.: Square brass movement, iron train, chain/fusee for going train, 2 barrels for hour strike and alarm, 2 hammers/2 bells, locking plate, verge escapement, iron ring balance without balance spring, hog's bristle regulator. Tobias Reichel was employed as watchmaker at the Electoral Saxon Court in Dresden from 1603 to 1610. In particular his small automatons were famous (spider and pelican automaton clocks at the "Grünes Gewölbe" (Green Vault) in Dresden as well as watches integrated in the handles of stabbing weapons (at the "Historisches Museum" (historical museum) in Dresden.
