A deluxe Italian morion with etched and gilt decoration, Milan, circa 1590 The skull forged in one piece, with a tall, roped comb. A perforation to attach the plume. A border of lining rivets at the lower edge (two have been lost), the brass plume socket riveted at the nape. The tapering brim with a turned and roped edge. Suspension holes on both sides, the brim torn on the left. Three dot marks struck on one side. Morion is entirely covered in finely etched scrolling bands with trophies, plus acanthus leaves around the brim. Remnants of the original gilding in the grooves. Height 31 cm. Condition: II -
