The Pretended Negotiations for Peace...The Important and Interesting Subject of a Conscript Militia...and The Establishment of an Immense Standing Army of Guards and Spies, Under the Name of a Local Volunteer Force...By a New England Farmer," gedruckt 1813 von Chester Stebbins in Boston, Massachusetts, 78 Seiten, 5,25 x 8,5, verfasst von John Lowell (1769-1840), einem Anwalt, Landwirt, Philanthropen und bekannten Föderalisten aus Massachusetts. Der Einband trägt Besitzvermerke in Tinte. In sehr gutem bis gutem Zustand, mit einer fehlenden unteren rechten Ecke auf der letzten Seite. Eine seltene Broschüre, die die Politik von Präsident James Madison während des Krieges von 1812 kritisiert, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf das, was Lowell als Madisons Neigung zu ständigen Konflikten wahrnahm. Der Autor argumentiert gegen Madisons Ansatz in der Außenpolitik und im militärischen Engagement, da er zu einem endlosen Kriegszustand führen würde. Ein bemerkenswertes Stück politischer Literatur aus dem frühen 19. Jahrhundert, das die intensiven Debatten und Kontroversen der damaligen Zeit widerspiegelt.
