A LARGE GLAZED POTTERY "LION AND VASE" ROOF TILE (JISHA) China, Ming Dynasty Pottery. H. 55 cm. The lion stands on all-fours on plinth base, saddled with a blanket reaching to the ground, and surmounted by a detachable finial in shape of a buddhist vase. With obvious traces of age and use, partially damaged. The Jisha is an architectural element located in the center of the main ridge, which could be mostly seen on temples. This piece should have its origin in Shanxi Province and can be compared with a similar piece on the Vairocana Hall in Guangsheng Temple, Hongdong County, Shanxi Province (renovated in 1497). Der Löwe steht auf vier Beinen auf einem Sockel, gesattelt mit einer bis zum Boden reichenden Decke und bekrönt von einem abnehmbaren Knauf in Form einer buddhistischen Vase. Part. besch., mit deutlichen Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Das Jisha ist ein architektonisches Element in der Mitte des Dachfirsts, das hauptsächlich an Tempeln zu sehen ist. Dieses Stück sollte seinen Ursprung in der Provinz Shanxi haben und ist mit einem ähnlichen Stück auf der Vairocana-Halle im Guangsheng-Tempel, Kreis Hongdong, Provinz Shanxi (renoviert 1497) zu vergleichen.
