Illustriert mit 2 Porträt-Frontispieces des Autors, 3 farbigen Karten (2 Faltblätter), 25 Tafeln, davon 5 Faltblätter, und zahlreichen In-Text-Illustrationen. Ziel der Reise des britischen Forschers Colquhoun (1848-1914) war es, die beste Route zur Verbindung von Burma und China durch die Eisenbahn zu finden; die Faltkarte im zweiten Band zeigt eine vorgeschlagene Erweiterung des British Burma Railway System. Colquhoun war der erste Administrator der Southern Rhodesia oder British South Africa Company.
