A Chinese hardwood circular box and cover, 18th century, inlaid with a carved ivory handle issuing hardstone branches ending with ivory and mother-of-pearl blossoms amidst jadeite buds, above a carved mother-of-pearl panel with incised flowering peony decorations, hardstone butterflies and an ivory bird hover above the branches, the box housing a painted enamel h'ors d'oeuvres set, with a central circular dish with eight outer dishes, all decorated with four-clawed dragons amidst a dense ground of polychrome lingzhi clouds, the central dish with two dragons encircling a flaming pearl, 40cm diameter (10) 品相報告 Condition Report: Some losses to the hardstone, ivory etc. The main mother-of-pearl carving is broken, although all pieces are present. One of the red buds possibly looks to be a replacement. Some dirt encrustations and old splits to the wood. Dents and scuffs to the edges of the enamel dishes, with wear to the painted surfaces.
