Descripción

Tibor in blue and white glazed ceramic from Puebla, following oriental models. Formerly used as spice racks in traditional Puebla cuisine. Mexico, 18th century Height: 27 cm The Talaveras of Puebla designate the glazed ceramic works with a tin finish produced in that Mexican town from the 17th century to the present. With the arrival of the Spanish conquerors, in the heart of what would later be known as Mexico, polished ceramics were developed and decorated with slips that were dyed with mineral or vegetable pigments, with the color red predominating. The ornamental motifs of these pieces were inspired by the rich mythology and legendary narratives of the region. This artistic expression was shaped by diverse influences: the Spanish heritage with its Islamic roots, the sophistication of Chinese porcelain and the elegance of Italian art. These elements were reflected both in the silhouette of the pieces and in their ornaments, giving the ceramics of Puebla a distinctive character, of great beauty and relatively unexplored on our continent.
