Maurice Prentice Burke (1921-2010) for Arkana Model 115 chair, metal structure and black-dyed polypropylene shell with fabric upholstered cushion. Edition mark on the seat. Measurements: 79 x 50 x 50 cm Maurice Burke, noted for his innovation in 20th century industrial design, is recognized for his contributions to Arkana. His creations, the Burke 115 chairs and the 116 armchairs, have become icons of the Star Trek series. Often confused with Eero Saarinen, whose tulip chairs influenced his work, Burke left his own mark on furniture design. Star Trek designers adapted their 115 and 116 models, adding distinctive elements such as a black headrest and a backrest with beveled finishes. Although these chairs grace most episodes of The Original Series, their presence is more sporadic in later series such as The Next Generation, Enterprise, and Discovery, and they have had a prominent role in the recent Strange New Worlds Enterprise.
