The miniatures of this codex were developed in the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Bertin, a center of wisdom and knowledge in 13th century France; Although they are from an unknown hand, they are characterized by using golden backgrounds of Byzantine influence, bright colors and flat figures, while maintaining some of the conventions typical of the Romanesque.
