Estas cartas "se refieren al Levante mediterráneo, todo el Oriente y Extremo Oriente de Asia, Etiopía en África, América del Sur y Central, Canadá e Illinois". En sus informes y cartas, los Padres, después de relatar sus viajes, se esforzaban por satisfacer las peticiones de sus superiores en Europa, es decir, por proporcionar una información completa sobre los temas más variados: el estado de las misiones, la vida de los misioneros, la facilidad o dificultad de la propaganda, a menudo las persecuciones, las costumbres de los habitantes, los descubrimientos geográficos y los recursos de los países, los acontecimientos militares y políticos, las relaciones con los gobiernos, tales son los principales temas tratados en estos escritos cuya utilidad no puede pasarse por alto, sobre todo a falta de documentos de cualquier tipo". Das in minutiöser Handarbeit gefertigte Manuskript evoziert auf wundervolle Weise die Buchkunst des 15. Jahrhunderts und ist neben der prachtvollen Kalligraphie ausgestattet mit zahlreichen kunstfertigen Initialen, inklusive nobler Eingangsinitiale, reichem Rankenwerk und exquisiten Darstellungen von Tieren und Fabelwesen. Der Text beinhaltet den 96. Psalm (Cantate Domino) auf Französisch. Die Urheberin des gänzlich in Feder, Aquarelle und Goldfarbe gestalteten Werks scheint auf dem Widmungsblatt preisgegeben zu sein, wo in französischer Sprache steht: "Geschenk an den Herrn Pastor Deroppet von einer dankbaren Großmutter für die religiöse Erzieherung die ihre Enkelin Antoinette Rognon genießen durfte. Colombes, April 1884, G. Verboom". - Das kräftige Vélin-Papier teils mit verschiedenen Blindstempeln: "De La Rue & Co. London Board" und "L. Berville, 25 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin". - In den Rändern minimal gebräunt und teils mit kleinen Anschmutzungen. Ein Name auf Widmungsblatt etwas berieben. Insgesamt wunderbar erhaltenes und prächtiges Manuskript mit leuchtenden Farben und Goldhöhungen. Splendidly illuminated manuscript with rich, gold heightened zoomorphic and vegetal decoration. 8 illuminated pages. Dark red full morocco on 5 bands with gilt centrepieces and corner fleurons, gilt edges and inner edges, triple gilt edges and marbled endpapers. Signed: Bourlier. (Front cover slightly spotted. Somewhat rubbed and scuffed.) - The meticulously handcrafted manuscript beautifully evokes 15th century book art and, in addition to the splendid calligraphy, is furnished with numerous elaborate initials, including a noble entrance initial, rich vine work and exquisite depictions of animals and mythical creatures. The text includes the 96th Psalm (Cantate Domino) in French. The author of the work, which is crafted entirely in pen and ink, watercolours and gold paint, seems to be revealed on the dedication page, which reads in French: "Gift to the Reverend Deroppet from a grateful grandmother for the religious education of her granddaughter Antoinette Rognon. Colombes, April 1884, G. Verboom". - The strong vélin paper partly with various blind stamps: "De La Rue & Co. London Board" and "L. Berville, 25 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin". - Minimally browned in the margins and partly with small soiling. One name on dedication page somewhat rubbed.
