Planter signed Pierre-Ferdinand Duvinage and Alphonse Giroux, 1877 -1882

Gilt bronze jardinière with ivory, brass and exotic wood marquetry, bronze signed Alphonse Giroux and marquetry signed Pierre-Ferdinand Duvinage (1877 - 1882). It has small losses and a base that needs to be fixed. Measurements: 37,5 x 34,5 x 30 cm. Pierre-Ferdinand Duvinage, a master cabinetmaker renowned for the quality of his marquetry, joined forces with Alphonse Giroux in 1867 under the prestigious Maison Giroux. In 1877, Duvinage's widow obtained a patent to protect her husband's marquetry style and work, characterised by Japanese-inspired motifs. In 1878, these first objects were exhibited at the Universal Exhibition and production continued until 1882 when the widow de Douvinage ceased her activity.
