Description

Pair of gold earrings with lapis lazuli and garnet. Parthian, 2nd - 4th century AD. 21g, l 5.5cm. With hinged clasp. Shackle, to which a ball decorated with garnet decoration is attached, two rosettes with a garnet in the center and two drop-shaped, set garnet stones. At the bottom, a step-like extension with sheet gold rosettes, connected to the sphere at the corners by tubular lapis lazuli beads strung on gold wire. This is followed by a grape-like extension. Gold! Pin of the hinge missing, one lapis lazuli element missing, one ball of the grape-like extension glued. Provenance: Ex collection Dr. Klaus Marquardt, North Rhine-Westphalia, 1980s to 2009.
