Large Paestan Pagenstecher lekythos. Circa 340 BC. H 25.4 cm, ø body 9.7 cm. The top of the foot, part of the neck and mouth painted with a glossy tone. In between, a large pictorial field with a young woman with her hair up, holding a dainty, wreath and fruit, and a young man with a walking stick and branch at the side of an altar, naked except for a cloak hanging over his arm. Numerous details in red, white and yellow. With TL analysis! On this special form of lekythoi, which are characterized by their ovoid body and the black-figure technique, which is otherwise found in the 4th century BC almost only on the Panathenaic prize amphorae, see R. Hurschmann, Die Pagenstecher-Lekythoi. JbDAI 29th supplement (1997). Tiny bumps at the mouth, iny chippings at the mouth, reassembled with small retouched cracks, but almost complete with nearly perfectly preserved colors. Provenance: Since 2021 in the private collection P. A., Munich; previously in German family ownership since before 2000.
