Les Arts d'Asie à l'Hôtel Drouot
JUSQU'AU 22 DÉCEMBRE 2023In December, Auction series dedicated to Asian arts will take place at Hôtel Drouot and on Drouot.com, inviting buyers and amateurs on a journey from India to Japan, via China and Southeast Asia.
Some auctions will unveil imperial treasures, such as these two ‘famille-rose’ works. The first is a gilt bronze and cloisonné enamel sorbet, from the imperial workshops in Beijing, Yongzheng period (1725-1735) (Baron Ribeyre, estimate: €10,000 - 12,000) and the second is a rare porcelain painted with cartouches including flowers of the four seasons and poems, Qianlong mark and period, 18th century (Millon, estimate: €60,000 - 80,000).
Among the most sought-after 17th-century items is a parcel gilt silver coffee pot, like the one given to Louis XIV by the King of Siam's ambassador, Phra Narai, on September 1, 1686. Classified as a national treasure, it was sold by private treaty for €1 million by Beaussant Lefèvre auction house to the Château de Versailles in 2018 (Beaussant - Lefèvre & Associés, estimate: €30,000 - €50,000).
The program dedicated to Asian arts will also feature fine examples of Buddhist works from China and Southeast Asia, such as the two Ming-period sculptures offered at Hôtel Drouot. The gilt bronze sculpture shows the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara or Guanshiyin, 16th-17th century (Delon Hoebanx, estimate: €15,000-20,000) and the polychrome lacquered figure represents the Buddhist deity Guanyin, dating from the 15th-16th century (Alexandre Landre, estimate: €30,000-40,000).
The sale series will also include jade carvings, including an important pale celadon "wedding" cup, China, Qianlong period, 18th century (Ader, estimate: €20,000 -25,000) and a vessel, mark "Qianlong fang gu" and "Zhou taotie ding", carved with dragons (Jean-Marc Delvaux, estimate: €40,000 - 50,000).
There will be a large array of Japanese art including engravings, prints and works of art such as the 19th-century armor (Gros Deletrrez, estimate: €4,000 - €6,000).
Over thirty sales, including live auctions at the Hôtel Drouot and online sales on drouot.com, will offer an overview of the richness and quality of Asian arts, in porcelain, jade, furniture and works of art from the 14th to the 20th centuries.
