[CHIVALRIC POEMS]. Lot consisting of two incomplete copies of the illustrated editions of the works of Tasso and Ariosto printed by Castello and Guerra. TASSO Torquato (1544-1595).La Gerusalemme liberata. Genoa: Castello, 1617. 4to (276 x 195mm) Engraved title-page, plates at the start of each canto, vignettes and headpieces (missing +2 and +4 v* with engraved dedication to Savoy and a leaf of sonnets to Tasso, old repairs to the title-page and to the margin of the penultimate leaf, a small hole to a few leaves in the upper right-hand corner with loss of some letters probably due to a small amount of damage in binding or printing, some foxing and spotting). Early twentieth-century half-calf with embossed damask sides, title gilt, marbled endpapers [IN LOT WITH:] ARIOSTO, Ludovico (1474-1533). Orlando Furioso. Venice: Guerra 1582. 4to (194 x 145mm) Wood-engraved frontispiece with title in a large architectural frame decorated with a view of Venice, wood engravings at the beginning of each book (e3-e8 replaced with f3-f8 which are duplicated so are missing, browning and spotting, a few small marginal tears). Contemporary full vellum binding (renewed guards and minor restorations). Provenance: Antonio Lombardi censor of the d'Este states; Giuseppe Baraldi censor (stamps on the colophon title-page verso).
