The stereographic maps depict: Capitol, Washington at night, Independence Hall in Philadelphia where the Declaration of Independence was signed, magnolias in Charleston, Death Valley, 2 views of Washington from the plane, the old slave market in St Augustine, Florida. From 1892 through 1963 Keystone produced and distributed both educational and comic/sentimental stereoviews, and stereoscopes. By 1905 it was the world's largest stereographic company. In 1963 the business was scaled back and Keystone continued to produce only stereographic vision training products as a subsidiary of the Mast Development Company. In 1972 Mast closed the Meadville manufacturing site. Bound with: Underwood & Underwood. The "Faithful Couple, the forest Giant and Giantess--two trees with but one trunk—California (Look up).”Ottawa, 1901 Black and white stereograph. 90x175. Below the image title and date. On the side margins the typographical data. Good condition. Rare and curious image of a gigantic tree. The National Museum of American History has a copy of this stereograph. Underwood & Underwood was a manufacturer and distributor of stereoscopic and other photographic images, and later pioneered the field of press office photography. The company was founded in 1881 in Ottawa, Kansas, by two brothers, Elmer and Bert Elias Underwood. They moved to Baltimore and then to New York City in 1891. The company ceased trading in the 1940s.
