A PYU NECKLACE WITH AN ETCHED CARNELIAN AGATE BEAD, 7TH-9TH CENTURY A PYU NECKLACE WITH AN ETCHED CARNELIAN AGATE BEAD, 7TH-9TH CENTURY Burma / Myanmar region, Pyu city states, ca. 7th – 9th century, the lapis lazuli and turquoise beads possibly later. The necklace lined with small lapis lazuli, turquoise, and metal beads, enclosing a carnelian agate bead etched with geometric designs. The ends with modern metal clasps. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, some beads with small nicks and natural flaws. The metal clasps and metal beads are a later addition.
