FRENCH PAINTER OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY Allegory of the theater Oil on panel, 40.5x59.5 cm; unreadable wax and stamp on back. The painting, of considerable historical interest, finds comparison in a splendid engraving, in counterpart, by Jacques Chéreau (1688-1776). A distinguished Parisian engraver who had a workshop on Rue Saint-Jacques, au Grand Saint-Rémy, Chéreau made use of the great artists of the French court to produce his works.
