Covers missing, corners worn. 2 erotic figures engraved out of text. pp. 167-168 include a verse piece "A Manon, en lui envoyant un exemplaire de cet ouvrage". Gay mentions the presence of an edition notice on p. 169 (the notice is here printed on the verso of the title on p. 2, and page 168 ends with the word "Fin"). Ex-libris JM. Paris, P.G. Le Mercier et Saillant, 1745-1749, 15 volumes. 9.5 by 16.5 cm. Contemporary full basane, ornate ribbed spines, red titles. Numerous small defects to binding. Some brown spots. Parfaict (François) and Parfaict (Claude), French literati, were brothers: François was born in Paris on May 10, 1698, and died there on October 25, 1753; Claude is said to have been born around 1701, and died in Paris on June 26, 1777. The main work of their collaboration is the Histoire générale du théâtre françois, a remarkable work and one of the most important sources for the history of early theater. It contains reproductions of numerous documents, analyses of the works and various quotations. The first three volumes contain extracts from ancient mysteries, moralities and farces, from their origins to 1548, when they were banned. The last volume closes with the year 1721.

In-12, 143 pp. Green half-chagrin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt title (19th c. post. binding). Without the 3 free figures. "A very rare anti-religious work. [...] This poem is written in obsene terms; it is a little tiring to read. It is a sort of imitation of the War of the Gods relating to Saint Anthony and his pig. It was put on the index at the Auvillain sale in 1865." Gay. Minor scattered foxing (Barbier I, 481; Gay I, 453).
