Small in-12, [20] ff. 411-[43] pp. black morocco, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and small fleurons, gilt title, publisher's name and date at tail, gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt edges, pink silk lining (early 19th c. binding). Dim. ff. 125 x 68 mm. Very small marginal tear on first few leaves. A very fine copy. First edition recognizable by the two passages printed in red. "This edition, which is not very accurate, is one of the prettiest given by the Elsevier family; large-margin (127 to 130 mm. high) and unstained copies are highly sought-after" Brunet. This edition, whose text has been revised by Dan. Heinsius, is a typographical masterpiece, but unfortunately leaves much to be desired from the point of view of correction". Willems. Fine provenance: Stamp in wet ink at the bottom of the title from the prestigious library of Henri d'Orléans, Duc d'AUMALE, accompanied by a "Double" mention stamp, explaining why this copy was not kept in the Chantilly library.
