"This play was never reprinted. The version now performed could not be more different from the original." (Lovenjoul, no. 899). In his bibliography of Gautier's works, Charles de Lovenjoul recounts the vicissitudes after which this play by Lopez, written in collaboration with Gautier, was staged. Bound at the beginning of the book is a handwritten note reproducing passages from Gautier's article in the press of October 25, 1847, in which he recalls the first performance of his play (Lovenjoul, no. 900). A fine copy with the original cover preserved.
