Illustrations by Robert Beltz woodcut by Gilbert Poilliot on the frontispiece and in the text. Edition of 299 copies; a nominative copy printed for Mr. and Mrs. F. Monnier, on Lana pur fil vellum with a suite of 52 color illustrations and a decomposition of the frontispiece. A very good copy.

Paris, Librairie des bibliophiles, 1883. 2 volumes in-8, black morocco, four-ribbed spines, gilt title and tomaison, mosaic decoration of autumn flowers and leaves in the center of the spines, beautiful inverted L-shaped decoration composed of a gilt branch with mosaic thistle flowers and leaves and silver snakes, brown morocco linings with beautiful frame formed of a gilt grid with mosaic and gilt flowers, some topped by gilt owls, and cold snakes, brown moire endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, covers preserved (Ch. Meunier). (Ch. Meunier 97). Portrait and 10 figures engraved out of text by A. Lalauze. Large paper edition limited to 220 numbered copies; no. 190 of 170 on Hollande paper, with the engravings in three states (condition specific to copies on Japon according to the proof): final state, intermediate state on Japon with remarks signed in pencil and final state on Japon with remarks signed in pencil by the artist.
