In-8, red half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with rocaille irons and gilt title (period binding). Rubbed. Map (in color), and 29 steel or wood-engraved plates on Chine appliqué and approximately 450 vignettes in the text. Without the 7 steel-engraved portraits. The cul-de-lampe at the end of the tables of large vignettes depicts the engraver's and bookseller's instruments. One of the finest editions of the Romantic period, illustrated by the most famous artists of the time: Tony Johannot, Français, Ernest Meissonier, Paul Huet, Eugène Isabey, Charles Marville, Adolphe Steinheil. Rubbed, but a good copy in a contemporary binding (Vicaire, VII, 42).

In-4 ff. dark blue calf, spine ribbed, author and title in gilt lettering, gilt head, full and dotted fillets framing spine flaps, covers and spine preserved, in slipcase (Ivan Monod, Lyon). 12 beautiful hors texte compositions, 3 bandeaux and 3 lettrines by Brunelleschi, stencilled. Edition of 525 copies; n°423 of 500 on Arches. Apart from the spine, which is rubbed and unstained, a very fine copy.
