Paris, Renouard, 1835. Large folio, blond half calf, smooth spine decorated. First edition illustrated with a frontispiece and 75 hors-texte plates. This work was produced by Hittorf and Zanth following their trips to Sicily in 1823 and 1824. The bulk of the work concerns palaces, civil buildings and churches. It includes drawings of Monreale Cathedral. The main interest of this study lies in the representation of the monuments of Messina, which did not survive the earthquake of 1900 and would remain unknown without this work. A very fine copy, with a few small brown spots.

Paris, Imprimerie de Firmin Didot frères, 1832. In-folio, xi-[3]-63 pp. of text, [1] f. table, a few figures in the text and 60 line-engraved plates. Red half-sheepskin with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets (period binding). Covers dull, a few brown spots. This is the only French translation of The Unedited antiquities of Attica, published in 1817 by archaeologist and architect William Wilkins at a London address. This original included no fewer than 84 plates. In the French edition, the plates were created by Hittorff (1792-1867), then a young architect in favor with the government of Louis-Philippe and the city of Paris, where his achievements would leave their mark on the face of the capital (Saint-Vincent-de-Paul church, town halls in the present-day 5th and 1st arrondissements, Cirque d'hiver, Gare du Nord, etc.). It goes without saying that the two men behind this album had both completed, albeit at very different times, their "tours" of Greece or Magna Graecia, considered a must for future architects.
