Oblong folio, blond half calf, smooth spine decorated (19th c. binding). Engraved title, 1 dedication leaf and 77 plates numbered 1 to 77. Bound in suite: Stylobates columnae antoninae nuper ruderibus campi martii. 1708: 3 plates. Second edition of this beautiful fully engraved work. The beautiful plates illustrate each portion of the reliefs on Marcus Aurelius' column, while the last 3 show the lettering at the base of the Antonine column. Pietro Santi Bartoli was a painter and etcher. He engraved a considerable number of ancient monuments from his own drawings, which are generally very accurate. (Brunet I, 758.) A very fine, fresh copy of a good edition (slight wetness in the lower margin of the last 2 plates, without affecting the subject).
