This plate is uncommon, but unfortunately the right, left and bottom parts have been cut, with loss of image and text. Marginal tear, not missing.

In-8, tan boards, red title page, speckled edges (modern binding). Rare first French edition of Letters from Illinois, published in Philadelphia in 1818, and illustrated with a folding engraved map. Born into a family of Quakers, the author emigrated with his family to the United States in 1817, founding an agricultural colony in the state of Illinois. This collection of letters includes his correspondence during his first year with friends and future settlers. It contains a wealth of practical information about his life and the conditions of his settlement. A good copy. Some spotting at the beginning of the volume.

Clay sur l'annexion du Texas aux États-Unis. A good copy. Some foxing.
