(engraved title with large allegorical figure, dedication to the States of the United Provinces, to the reader, privilege and table of plates), 21 pp. then pp. 21-65, [2] pp. table, 26 engraved figures in the text (one with fold-out collette), and 10 plates out of text (9 double-page or fold-out showing the various cantonments of the army, one single-page plan between pp. 64 and 65, not mentioned in the table of figures). Angular paper repair on f. 39-40. Imitation blond calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt caissons, large framing of garland, stippling, triple gilt fillet with large floral decorations in ecoinçon on the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges, gilt lace framing on the counterplates (Ch. Weill Orléans). Rare first edition of this magnificent publication, one of the finest of its kind for the first half of the 17th century. Between page 20 and page 21 (ff. C2 and C3) another page 21 has been inserted, on a blank verso, entitled Le Troisieme plan d'infanterie, with a figure at the bottom of the recto. Ironed by Gustave de Ridder (1865-1945), former treasurer of the Société des bibliophiles du Palais. A fine copy.
