Uniforms - SCHINDLER (Carl Friedrich). The Prussian Army under Kaiser Wilhelm, its uniforms and weaponry. In 50 chromographic tables, engraved in the workshops of W.A. Seitz, Wandsbeck. Berlin, Hermann Meidinger, [Paris], Adolphe Legoupy, sd (c. 1872). In-4, [2] ff. and 50 color plates, numbered, and captioned in German, on ff. in red ribboned half cloth folder, smooth muted spine, title to center front board (publisher's binding). Upper spine split over 10 cm, spine awkwardly reinforced inside. This is the French version of the collection Preussens Heer, published in Berlin just after the 1870 War (probably 1872). (Colas II, 2663 (knows only the German edition).

Uniforms - [STRASSGSCHWANDTNER (A., known as Tony)]. Die kaiserl. königl. Oesterreichische Armee nach der neuesten Adjustirung 1869. Vienna, P. Kaeser, sd (1869). In-4, title in Latin characters and 45 lithographed and colored plates, all pasted on flexible cardboard mounted on tabs, red morocco half-chagrin, ribbed spine (late 19th c. binding). Spine uniformly oiled, otherwise a good copy. A collector's collection: the title has been photomechanically reproduced and mounted on cardboard, surrounded by black fillets and protected by semi-rigid plastic film; the vignettes, originally in in-16 format and measuring 14.5 x 11 cm, have also been mounted on in-4 plates. The collation is in line with that given by De Ridder, apart from the order of the vignettes, which is not the same. This is an important suite, since it depicts the Austro-Hungarian army's costumes just after the changes made to the uniforms following the unfortunate Austro-Prussian War of 1866, and the abolition of the white tunic for officers. (De Ridder, 76. Absent from Colas.) Bookplate from the library of Baron de MARBOT.

Uniforms - LALAISSE (Hippolyte). French Empire. The Army and Imperial Guard. Paris, (Maison Martinet), Hautecœur frères, sd (1853-1866). In-4 of [1]-30 lithographed and colored plates, green percaline, title and large arms of Empire stamped and gilt on the first cover, gilt edges (publisher's binding). Scattered foxing. Rare. A second part, also with 30 plates, was published in 1866. A very fine work, accurately depicting Second Empire army uniforms, lithographed by Villain and Godard (Colas, 1734.)

Uniforms - PHILIPPOTEAUX (Félix). The French Army. [Paris], [Barbier], [1850]. In-8, red half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated throughout, gilt head, untrimmed (period binding by Allo). Very interesting suite comprising the title and 126 color plates engraved by Léopold Deghouy, entirely mounted on tabs, giving a retrospective of war dress and uniforms of the French army from the Franks to 1850. A good copy.
