Almanac with title-frontispiece and 12 out-of-text fashion figures. Includes a two-part folding calendar (a little soiled), songs relating to the prints and historical notes on fashions, costume, etc. Printed bookplate of Louis Becker, 2nd bookplate pasted on verso of last engraving. Almanach. Le Petit Modiste français dédié aux dames. Paris, Le Fuel, 1820. In-18 (11.4 x 7.5 cm) 180 pp. 4 ff. n. ch. muted pink boards, gilt edges, pink slipcase (publisher's boards). This handsome almanac is adorned with 12 handsome stipple-engraved and colored fashion figures depicting Parisian costumes. Attributed to Vernet and Lanté. One double plate, "absolutely ravishing" (Grand-Carteret), depicts the Longchamp promenade. This almanac ran for three years, from 1818 to 1820. The text provides information on the fashions, mores and customs of the time, as well as a theatrical bulletin. Carlo de Poortere bookplate gilt on red leather. Minor foxing, but a fine copy. (Colas, no. 2333; Grand-Carteret, no. 1843).

Almanach. Recueil général de costumes et modes. Paris, Desnos, [1780]. In-16 (11.2 x 6.3 cm), burgundy morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, ornate smooth spine, green title-piece, roulette on the cups and chasses, morocco pencil sheaths on the outer edge, gilt edges (period binding). Rare fashion almanac, with frontispiece and 48 intaglio engraved costume plates, hand-colored at the time. The almanac features a frontispiece after the engraved title, depicting the astonishing "Belle Poule hairstyle" inspired by the French frigate that confronted the English navy in 1778, and two sets of 24 engraved costume plates. Plates 13 and 14, intended to represent the King and Queen, "Dame de la suite de la Reine en robe de cour" and "Grand seigneur vêtu d'un habit de velours cerise brodé autour", are placed at the beginning (the first before the title). The remainder of the volume consists of a Secrétaire des dames et des messieurs including ff. of notes, losses and gains and a universal calendar. Small dark stain on one cover, a few restorations, raised quires and a few freckles, otherwise a fine copy in contemporary morocco. (Colas, no. 2515; Cohen, col. 69)
