Mae West Document Signed for Diamond Lil DS, two pages, 8 x 13, April 29, 1932. Agreement between Mae West and Mark Linder regarding royalties for a novelization of her 1928 play Diamond Lil, in part: "Whereas, Mae West is the sole author of the dramatic work known as 'Diamond Lil'; and wheres, under date of March 1st, 1928, the said Mae West and the said Mark Linder entered into an agreement with respect to the said work, wherein the said Mae West assigned to the said Mark Linder one-half of the moneys which the said Mae West shall receive or be entitled to...It is, therefore, agreed between Mae West and Mark Linder that the moneys due or to become due to Mae West from the said novelization of 'Diamond Lil' and publication thereof in novel form...shall be paid by The McCaulay Company of New York City to each of the parties hereto in the proportion of eighty per cent (80%) to Mae West and twenty per cent (20%) to Mark Linder." Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by both West and Linder. Stapled into its original blue paper folder. In fine condition. Diamond Lil was Mae West's first major Broadway success, and was the basis for her character Lady Lou in her 1933 film She Done Him Wrong.
