Herbert Hoover Typed Letter Signed as President TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, January 27, 1931. Letter to Jefferson D. Davis of Fort Miller, New York, in full: “I have your very kind note of January 23rd. I am taking up with some of the Departments here the possibility of putting you into service at no large remuneration but with considerable opportunity to help.” In fine condition. Jefferson Dalton Davis (1875-1958), a Texas native, served as an engineer in the U.S. Army during World War I, working under General John J. Pershing on construction projects at the port of Brest, France. Additionally, Davis later worked in numerous South American countries for the oil industry, completed engineering work on several Federal government projects under Presidents Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt, and worked with renowned civil engineer Lindon W. Bates on major railway, port, and canal projects.
