Wilhelm Dietzel, In the Studio Artist's studio with a mighty easel, on the right a table with painting utensils, including brushes and a colour palette, on the left a window with a view of a barren, wintry village landscape, partly glazed painting with stylistic echoes of magical realism typical of Dietzel, the furniture and objects are based on their real appearance and yet appear deformed as if in a dream, in a barren grey setting the colours on the palette are the only splashes of colour, for the artist, so the implication, only painting brings colour into the otherwise gloomy world, oil on chipboard, signed "W DIETZEL" and dated "1945" lower right, soiled and loss of colour, retouching, framed, rebate dimensions approx. 50 x 60 cm. Artist information: German painter of New Objectivity and Magic Realism (1898 Schrick to 1954 Kaiserswerth), 1919-23 studied at the Munich and Düsseldorf academies, including under Thorn-Prikker, 1928-36 lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin, during the Third Reich internal emigration, then teacher at the textile engineering school in Krefeld through Georg Muche, source: Saur.
