Joseph Ermoliev and his entire crew emigrated to France via Constantinople on the Greek merchant ship La Panthère. During the voyage, the crew shot a film to be broadcast under the title L'Angoissante aventure. They settled in Montreuil, in the former Pathé premises, and set up the L'Albatros studio, with Mosjoukine as their main star. Romain Gary liked to pretend that Ivan was his father.
