Eduard Ameseder, "Ein Ständchen" On an open space in front of a Wilhelminian-style building, the already low sunlight casts its shadows into the alley, on which three musicians in historical dress, playing string and wind instruments, give a serenade, slightly pastose history painting in muted colours, oil on canvas, early 20th century, signed "E Ameseder" lower left, on the reverse of the stretcher probably signed and titled by the artist on a label with address, on a more recent typewritten label and again inscribed in pencil by another hand, old restoration, craquelure, minor marginal defects due to earlier framing, unframed on stretcher, rebated dimensions approx. 61 x 48.5 cm. Artist information: German landscape painter (1856 Czernowitz - 1938 Vienna), from 1876 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl and Eduard von Lichtenfels, from 1887 to 1891 in Karlsruhe under Gustav Schönleber, since 1893 permanently in Vienna, there member of the Künstlergenossenschaft, 1902 small gold medal at the annual exhibition in Vienna, illustrator for the "Die österreich.-ungar. Monarchy in Words and Pictures", created two large murals for the new Court Museum in Vienna, his works can be found in numerous museums, including the Modern Galleries in Vienna and Prague and the Vienna Court Museum of Art History, Ameseder mainly painted landscapes in the Impressionist style, as well as depictions of milieus, he was married to the painter Laura Amanda Ameseder-Rohrwasser (1856-1919), sources: Thieme-Becker, Saur, Benezit and Internet.
