Artist information: actually Louis Karl August Preller, also erroneously Ludwig Preller, German landscape painter and restorer (1822 Eisenberg to 1901 Weimar), initially trained as a porcelain painter in Eisenberg/Thuringia, from 1838 pupil of Friedrich Preller the Elder at the Grand Ducal School of Art in Weimar, later worked for a time in Varel in Oldenburg and in Leipzig, finally from ca. 1870 in Weimar, organised exhibitions in Constance, Hamburg and Weimar, source: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon" and Boetticher.
