[Munich]", titled and dated on the reverse of the canvas "Feuerstein Klippen - Vogelheerd [sic. - means: Vogelherd] b. Schierke gemalt 1886", further annotation on the stretcher "Verlobt 22.7.72 - Hochzeit 12/2 74", craquelure, small mounting hole in the margin, small loss in the canvas, in need of cleaning and some restoration, unframed, dimensions approx. 91 x 136.5 cm. Artist information: actually Ferdinand Adolf Bernhard König, German landscape painter, draughtsman and photographer. Landscape painter, draughtsman and photographer (1827 Magdeburg to 1894 Munich), initially trained and worked as a gunsmith, moved to Hamburg in 1857 and took over a photographic studio, at the same time turning to painting as an autodidact, artistically encouraged by his friend, the painter Hermann Rudolf Hardorff (1816-1907), Moved to Munich in 1871 and worked as a freelance painter, here a pupil of Adolf Stäbli (1842-1901) and friendly support from August von Kaulbach, undertook study trips to Italy and to Norway in 1875 and 1892, participated in the Berlin Academy exhibition as well as exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Hanover, Magdeburg, Dresden, Bremen and the Munich Glaspalast, source: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Boetticher and Rump.
