Béla Kádár, Auf dem Wochenmarkt busy hustle and bustle on the square at a church in a French town, loosely drawn ink brush drawing on paper, around 1940, signed "Kádár Béla" in the lower right area, slight traces of studio, matted and framed behind glass, mat opening approx. 22 x 28.5 cm. Artist information: also Bela Kadar, Engl. Albert Kádár, important Hungarian Jewish painter and draughtsman (1877 Budapest - 1956 Budapest), from 1890 initially worked as an iron turner and groom, early interest in art, studied at the Budapest Academy from 1902, first exhibition of his works in the Hungarian National Gallery in 1906, honoured with the Kohner Prize in 1910 and study trip to Paris and Munich, then scholarship holder at the Szolnok artists' colony, 1912 trip to Moscow, 1918 emigrated from Hungary and worked in Germany and France, 1919 exhibition in Vienna, 1920 moved to Berlin, 1922 temporarily shared a studio with Marc Chagall in Berlin, 1923-24 several exhibitions in Herwarth Walden's "Sturm-Galerie", represented at further exhibitions in Budapest, Berlin, Philadelphia and New York, around 1930 returned to Hungary, 1937 defamed as "degenerate", 1944 interned in the Budapest ghetto, worked in Budapest after 1945, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", "Der Sturm" (April 1926), Bénézit and Wikipedia.
