Alt" in pencil lower right, on the reverse incorrectly inscribed "Jacob Alt/1789-1872/Frankfurt - Wien", somewhat creased in the margins, some backings and light foxing, mounted under passepartout, 38 x 46 cm. Artist info: Austrian landscape and veduta painter. Landscape and veduta painter (1824 Vienna - 1914 Vienna), brother of Rudolf von Alt, pupil of his father Jakob Alt, from 1836 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Josef Danhauser and Leopold Kupelwieser, from 1844 worked independently, 1856-57 and 1867 travelled with Archduke Ludwig Viktor to Spain and Portugal, 1869-96 member of the Cooperative of Fine Arts in Vienna, awarded the Golden Salvator Medal of the City of Vienna in 1911, friendship with Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach and Count Kázmér Miklós Esterházy de Galántha, study trips to Northern Italy, Tyrol, London, Paris, Moscow and St. Petersburg, achieved fame as a veduta of the city of Vienna.
