Hans Thoma, Two etchings "Landschaft mit Gewitter", etching in blue, 1917, image size approx. 12.5 x 15.7 cm and "Selbstbildnis IV mit Blume" (for his 80th birthday), etching in brown, 1919, image size approx. 24.5 x 16.5 cm, each signed in lead "Hans Thoma", minimally creased. Artist info: German painter and graphic artist. Painter and graphic artist (1839 Bernau - 1924 Karlsruhe), initially trained as a lithographer and parlour painter in Basel and as a clock sign maker in Furtwangen, parallel self-taught painting and drawing studies, studied 1859-66 at the Karlsruhe art school under Ludwig Des Coudres and Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, then briefly in Basel and Düsseldorf, 1868 stay in Paris, influenced by Gustave Courbet and the Barbizon school, 1870-76 in Munich, 1874 first trip to Italy with a stay in Rome, from 1878 active in Frankfurt am Main, 1899-1901 in Kronberg and member of the Kronberg painters' colony, friendship and inspiration from Arnold Böcklin, Wilhelm Leibl, Wilhelm Steinhausen and Wilhelm Trübner, appointed professor in 1899, 1899-1920 director of the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, source: Thieme-Becker and Internet.
