Helmut Lander, bronze head 2nd half 20th century, monogrammed La, model number 157, polished bronze, abstract depiction of a male head divided in the centre in a jagged shape, in good condition for its age, h 8 cm. Artist information: German sculptor, painter and draughtsman (1924 Weimar to 2013 Darmstadt), after emergency school-leaving examination from 1942 military service and subsequent American captivity, here already artistically active, 1946-50 studied at the Weimar Academy of Architecture and Fine Arts under Hermann Kirchberger, Otto Herbig and Albert Schaefer-Ast, then trainee at the Sauermild tapestry manufactory, 1951 moved to Darmstadt, from 1952 studied architectural ceramics at the Werkkunstschule Darmstadt, subsequently worked as a freelancer, 1959 designed concrete glass windows, portal and paraments for the Christuskirche in Bochum, 1960 moved to the house designed by Karl-Heinz Schelling on the Mathildenhöhe, from 1971 taught at the Technical University of Darmstadt, member of the Darmstadt Secession until 1989, 2013 awarded the Hessian Order of Merit on Ribbon, source: Wikipedia and the artist's website.
