Carved figure of a saint South German, 19th century, Carved wood, polychrome painted and partially gold-bronzed, fully sculpted depiction of the Christian martyr St. Sebastian, who, according to tradition, as a Roman soldier and captain of the bodyguard of Emperor Diocletian, publicly professed his Christian faith, was then condemned to death and tied to a tree where archers were to shoot him, but the supposedly dead Sebastian was later redeemed from the arrows by the pious widow Irene and nursed back to health, lack of preservation, loss of substance, in need of restoration, h 145 cm.
