Description

GERARD VAN DEN BERG (Holland, 1947) for MONTIS. Set of six "Fellini" armchairs, design 1999. Camel coloured leather. Wooden frame. Folding backrests. With marks of use. Measurements: 84 x 57 x 56 cm. The Fellini model reflects the simple but suggestive and unmistakable shapes of Gerard van den Berg. The seat, backrest and armrests are upholstered in camel colour, and the slender rectangular legs are visible. The solidity of the seats contrasts with the lightness of the legs, reflecting the innovation and avant-garde to which the Dutch designer exposed himself. Gerard Van der Berg paved the way for a renaissance in Dutch design, becoming an important figure in the promotion of Dutch furniture abroad. Trained in furniture construction and design at a technical school, in the 1970s he and his brother founded the upholstered furniture company Montis, which soon achieved international recognition. His success did not prevent van den Berg from leaving Montis in the early 1990s. Throughout his career he has received numerous prizes and awards and works for leading international companies. In addition to furniture, he also designs lamps and works in interior design.
