Christiania (Oslo). 19th century Inscription: Verso inscribed: "Gols kirke paa Bygdö". Date: 19th century Description: The photograph shows an imposing, architecturally elaborate wooden church of art-historical significance, with numerous decorative elements and a distinctive roof truss, surrounded by people in period dress and surrounded by a forest landscape. The photograph shows Gol Stave Church after its relocation to the Bygdøy peninsula near Oslo. The people posing in front of the church are officials, representatives and engineers who were responsible for moving Gol to its present location in 1884/85. Second from the right is the archaeologist and lawyer Nicolay Nicolaysen. Waldemar Hansteen could presumably be the second from the left or the person posing in front with the bowler hat.
