Descripción

Follower of REMBRANDT HARMENSZOON VAN RIJN (Leiden,1606- Amsterdam, 1669), ca. 1800. "Portrait of lady, possibly Maria Trip". Oil on canvas. Relined. Presents faults in the frame. Measurements: 107 x 80 cm; 120 x 95 x 7 cm (frame). We are in front of a copy of quality dated around 1800 of the "Portrait of Maria Trip", oil on panel that Rembrandt painted around 1639 and is preserved in the Rijksmuseum. A standing, half-length young woman occupies a classicist niche with stone carving at the back and a fragment of balustrade in front. She holds a closed fan in her right hand. Her auburn hair falls in silky ringlets and, although gathered with a tiara, falls in small curls over her forehead. She wears a silk dress with pleats at the waist and is adorned with a white collar embroidered with fine lace. Large flowers recamadas in silver thread complete the sumptuousness of the costume. She wears a necklace and bracelets of shiny pearls. From a black ribbon hangs a small jeweled medallion. Behind her and the arched doorway is a dark curtain and the light hits the young woman, highlighting her fair skin and hair. She probably represents Maria Trip (1619-1683), from 1641 wife of Balthasar Coymans (1589-1657), thirty years older and with whom she had six children.
