Description

The Triumph of Bacchus, in the manner of David Teniers the Younger (Antwerp, 1610-1690), 17th century Flemish school Oil on canvas, measures: 128 x 100 cm, framed measures: 165 x 127 cm. David Teniers the Younger (Antwerp, December 15, 1610 – Brussels, April 25, 1690) was a painter and engraver, son of David Teniers the Elder (or David Teniers I) and father of David Teniers III. He was a Flemish artist of great fame among his contemporaries thanks to his scenes of villagers and other common people (peasants, farmers, smokers), which allow us to compare him with Dutch masters such as Adriaen van Ostade, although he opted for a more refined costumbrismo. Another of his specialties was that of painter monkeys, where he showed these animals doing human tasks; theme also known as "macacadas" and "monerías", and called in Europe with the French term singeries. Six Centuries of Art. Hundred Great Masters. Mexico: Soumaya Museum-Carso Foundation. 2006. p. 58. ISBN 968-7794-30-5. Origin: old family collection, Navarra.
