Customs scene in the interior of a Flemish house from the 17th century, Jan Miense Molenaer (Haarlem 1610 - Haarlem, 1668) Canvas measurements: 70 x 60 cm, framed measurements: 100 x 90 cm. Jan Miense Molenaer (Haarlem, c. 1610 - Haarlem, buried September 19, 1668), was a Dutch painter and engraver whose style was a precursor to that of Jan Steen during the so-called Golden Age of Dutch painting. His genre scenes often depict musicians such as The Musicians (Budapest Museum of Fine Arts), The Duo (Seattle Art Museum), or Portrait of the Painter's Family Playing Music (Frans Hals Museum). He also painted Taverns and characters playing cards or games of the time such as the one called Handjeklap in Dutch, which literally means clapping with your hands. Provenance: Galerie des Beaux Arts, Paris, before 1930. Former Madrid private collection.
