Wenglein, Josef (attrib.) - 1845 Munich - 1919 Bad Tölz, German landscape painter, pupil of the painter Adolf Heinrich Lier, whose coloristic tendencies, calculated to express deep moods, particularly attracted him. Like Lier, Wenglein drew his motifs exclusively from the nearer and further surroundings of Munich, preferably from the Isar regions, he knew how to reproduce the changing daylight, especially in spring and autumn, with a fine feeling for the faintest stirrings of the atmosphere and to vary the gray pleasure tone of the Bavarian plateau with great virtuosity in all nuances, "Weidevieh an der Tränke", oil/mahogany panel, approx. 16x31,5cm, approx. 29x43cm, Lit. :Thieme/Becker 35, Bruckmanns Lexikon der Münchner Kunst 4, Internet
