ROBERT SLEZAK for Slezak Factories. Czech Republic, ca.1930's. Writing desk. White painted metal. Black glass. Shows signs of use and wear. Needs restoration. Measurements: 80 x 115 x 60 cm. Desk designed by the Czech artist Robert Slezak in the thirties, following the precepts of the German Bauhaus. The tubular structure and the small spherical feet give lightness and boldness to a design in accordance with the aesthetic and conceptual interests of the modern movement. The cabinet has three drawers with ball handles, and the top is covered with black glass. Robert Slezak founded Slezak Factories in 1908, a Czech furniture brand specializing in chrome-plated and bent metal furniture, which initially operated as a locksmith's shop and building fittings. The workshop developed rapidly, production was first extended to the popular brass fittings and new galvanic plating technology was introduced in the new facility. In 1911, it was one of the first manufacturers to offer galvanic plating of copper, nickel and chromium on the surface of products. From 1913, it began production of metal chairs and brass furniture, including beds, tables and chairs with its own designs in a combination of metal and wood. The original Slezák factories became part of the Kovona company after 1948, and since 1992 it has been called Kovonax. It presents marks of use and wear. Needs restoration.

RENATO TOSO (Murano, 1940) for Leucos. Pendant lamp "Melania", 1968. Glass, black outside, white inside. Measurements: 20 cm. x 65 cm. x 65 cm. x 65 cm. This Melaina ceiling lamp was designed by Renato Toso and produced by Leucos in 1968. It has a thick conical glass shade, with a glossy black exterior, white interior and a transparent border around the end. This combination of colors gives a special, screened illumination. It is possible to adjust the angle of the lamp with the steel rod. Italian designer and architect Renato Toso is known for his mid-century modern Murano glass pendant lights and sconces. His designs have a retro chic appeal characterized by soft curves and a natural elegance. He founded the design firm Toso, Massari & Associates, with his wife, designer Giovanna Noti Massari. He was born in 1940 in Murano, Italy. Murano is a Venetian island with a long glassmaking tradition. Both Toso and Massari studied architecture in Venice and founded Toso, Massari & Associati in 1966. The studio has designed collections for the historic lighting manufacturer Vistosi, one of Murano's most prominent glassmakers. The studio has won first place in several design competitions and exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the XII Milan Triennale and the Trieste National Design Competition. Its work has been exhibited at the Louvre in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
