Louis Valdo BARBEY (Valeyres-sous-Rances, Vaud, 1880 -Paris, 1964) Portrait of Constantin Photiadès (1883-1949) Canvas dedicated and signed upper right 59 x 49 cm (Slight indentation towards the bottom) Constantin Photiadès was a French writer of Greek origin, active in the early 20th century. Author of works such as Ronsard et son luth and La reine des lanturelus, he was awarded the Prix Alfred Née by the Académie française in 1933 for his body of work. Louis Valdo-Barbey, after studying with Eugène Burnand in Switzerland, and Georges Desvallières and Jean-Paul Laurens in Paris, became an illustrator, decorator and painter. He was appointed painter to the French Navy in 1947.
