FOUILLEN Paul (1899-1958) Rectangular, covered, single-flap case in stained and blackened beech, molded and carved with radiating floral motifs, geometric friezes formed by confronting triangles and shaded lines. It stands on four short legs. The lid is engraved with a bust of a Breton man with a pipe, signed. On the reverse, pyrographed diamond mark "QUIMPER/ PF/ DEPOSEE/ RUSTIQUE" and old price label "Au Souvenir Breton/ Portrieux . St. Quay" (a few minor knocks and scratches, wear). Height : 22 cm x Width : 41 cm x Depth : 22 cm Paul Fouillen joined the Grande Maison HB earthenware factory in Quimper in 1920, where he ran a workshop from 1923. There, he created a figurative decor of Breton figures with angular features, which long characterized his Art Deco style. He began decorating in 1926 on the stands of the Grande Semaine Bretonne in Paris.
